“The Day of the Lord- It is Coming”  June 1, 2008

Day of the Lord- a future period of time where God will judge the world in undiluted wrath (Rev 14:10, 15:1) with heat and fire (2 Peter 3:7-10).  It is seven years (Daniel 9:24-27; Revelation 6-19) destined to test those on earth (Rev 3:10).

POINT 1- The coming of the Day of the Lord should make us be WATCHING

Matthew 16:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6

A.   We should be watching for increased GODLESSNESS

(2 Tim 3:1-5; Luke 17:26-30; Matthew 24:38-39)

B.    We should be watching for an APOSTASY

(2 Thessalonians 2:3; 1 Timothy 4:1-5)

C.   We should be watching for preliminary BIRTH PAINS

(Matthew 24:1-8; Luke 21; Mark 13)

D.   We should be watching for advances in knowledge and TECHNOLOGY

(Daniel 12:1-2 includes increased world travel; Revelation 13:18, 11:9)

E.    We should be watching for alienation of the new nation of ISRAEL

(Ezekiel 37; Jeremiah 30:7; Revelation 12; Zechariah 12:2-4)

F.    We should be watching for the coming Jerusalem TEMPLE

(2 Thessalonians 2:1-4; Revelation 11:1-3; Daniel 9:24-27; Matthew 24:15)

G.   We should be watching for the revived ROMAN EMPIRE

(Daniel 9:27; Also… Daniel 2 & 7; Revelation 13)

H.   We should be watching for a coming war with Israel and RUSSIA

(Ezekiel 38-39)

Going          God expects you to avoid the error of the Pharisees and be watching!

Deeper           (Luke 21:28; 2 Peter 3:3-4)

POINT 2- The coming of the Day of the Lord should make us be READY

A.     Our readiness will be evident when we focus doing God’s WORK

(Matthew 24:43-51; Luke 21:34-36 tells us we can avoid the Day of the Lord)

Going         God expects you to be busy for Him and then we will reap the reward!
