Faith in Prayerful Worship”
5/25/08
Habakkuk 3:1-19
Ch.
1- Questions about Evil; Ch. 2- God’s unexpected response of judgment.
“For
whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we
through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.” Rom 15:4
POINT
1- A life
of prayerful worship begins with the proper ATTITUDE
A.
The
proper attitude demonstrates a heart of FEAR
(Verse 2a; Hebrews 12:28-29; Prov 19:23; Matthew
10:28; contra Rom 3:18)
“In
the fear of the LORD there is strong confidence, And His children will have a
place of refuge. 27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life” Prov 14:26-27
B.
The
proper attitude focuses on God’s Kingdom not OURS
(Verse 2b; Matthew 6:10, 33; 2 Corinthians 5:15; Romans
14:7-9)
C.
The
proper attitude acknowledges what we DESERVE
(Verse 2c; Luke 17:7-10;
Ephesians 2:1-3, 8-9; Titus 3:5)

POINT
2- A life
of prayerful worship continues with the proper MEDITATION
A.
The
mediation on God’s past works reminds us of our God who ACTS
(Verses 3-15; Psalm 77:1-20; Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:1-2,
119:23; John 5:17)
“I
will also meditate on all Your work, And talk of Your deeds.” Psalm 77:12
Deeper
POINT
3- A life
of prayerful worship ends with the proper CONFESSION
A.
As
we approach the Lord, it is ok that we confess our FEARS
(Verse 3:16; Isaiah 66:2; Job 40:1-5, 42:5-6; Revelation
1:10-17)
B.
In
the midst of trials and struggles, we need to confess our JOY
(Verse 3:17-18; Philippians 4:4-7; John 15:11, 16:22,
17:13)
C.
As
we trust in God’s wisdom, we confess our DEPENDENCE
(Verse 3:17-18; John 15:5; Philippians 4:13; 2
Corinthians 12:9-10; Isaiah 40:31)
