“The UnTriumphal
Entry- Misunderstanding Jesus’ Message”
3/16/08
John 12:12-16
What
does Sukkot and Chanukah have to do with Jesus’ Entry
into Jerusalem? (See below)
Before
it was NOT Jesus’ HOUR (John 6:15, 7:30, 8:20), but now His time has arrived and
He arranges it by purposely riding on a donkey (Zech 9:9; Luke 9:51).
POINT
1- The
misunderstanding of the King’s SUBJECTS
A. The people were coming
because they had heard of the rising of Lazarus
(John 12:9-11; John 2:23-25; John 6:26-27)
B. The people were coming
because they wanted a political SAVIOR
(Psalm 118:23-26)
Deeper you must see Him as Savior.
POINT
2- The
misunderstanding of the King’s PROPHECY
A. They did not realize that
Jesus was the prince of PEACE
(He was riding a donkey not a war stallion)
“Rejoice
greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King
is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a
donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.” Zechariah 9:9
DO WE TWIST GOD’S WORD? Complaining as venting; forgiveness and
bitterness; honor God with our lips, but hearts are far away. Who are you when no one is looking? CHURCHES HAVE MADE THIS A SOCIAL GOSPEL

POINT
3- The
misunderstanding of the King’s DISCIPLES
A. The disciples did not submit
to the Lord’s WORD
(Luke 9:44-46; Mat 16:21, 17:22-23, 18:1)
Deeper through His Word and not
according to your demands.
The
World wants: Jesus’ throne, but not His cross; His crown of gold, but not His
crown of thorns; His salvation, but not His humility. And you?
This should prepare us for Easter. It’s Jesus’ way and no other.
KJA 2 Maccabees 10:1 (148th
year; 1 Macc 4:52). Now
Maccabeus and his company, the Lord guiding them, recovered the temple and the
city: 2 But the altars which the heathen
had built in the open street, and also the chapels, they pulled down. 3
And having cleansed the temple they made another altar, and striking stones
they took fire out of them, and offered a sacrifice after two years, and set
forth incense, and lights, and shewbread. 4
When that was done, they fell flat down, and besought the Lord that they might
come no more into such troubles; but if they sinned any more against him, that
he himself would chasten them with mercy, and that they might not be delivered
unto the blasphemous and barbarous nations. 5 Now upon the same day
that the strangers profaned the temple, on the very same day it was cleansed
again, even the five and twentieth day of the same month, which is Casleu. 6 And they kept the eight days with
gladness, as in the feast of the tabernacles, remembering that not long afore
they had held the feast of the tabernacles, when as they wandered in the
mountains and dens like beasts. 7 Therefore they bare branches, and
fair boughs, and palms also, and sang psalms unto him that had given them good
success in cleansing his place. 8 They ordained also by a common
statute and decree, That every year those days should
be kept of the whole nation of the Jews.
KJA 1 Maccabees 13:51 And (Simon) entered into it the
three and twentieth day of the second month in the hundred seventy and first
year (171st year), with thanksgiving, and branches of palm trees,
and with harps, and cymbals, and with viols, and hymns, and songs: because
there was destroyed a great enemy out of Israel. 52 He ordained also
that that day should be kept every year with gladness. Moreover the hill of the
temple that was by the tower he made stronger than it was, and there he dwelt
himself with his company.
