“The Call to Bless and Be Blessed” 10/14/07

1 Peter 3:8-12

1 Peter Series- “Living for the Glory of God in a Hostile World”

“Therefore… whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Cor 10:31

POINT 1- Peter describes four things that will allow our lives to be BLESSED

A. To be blessed we need to demonstrate the proper ATTITUDE

1) The proper attitude begins with us being LIKE-MINDED (in purpose)

2) The proper attitude expects us to be COMPASSIONATE

3) The proper attitude demands that we demonstrate LOVE (John 13:35)

4) The proper attitude is one that manifests TENDERHEARTEDNESS

5) The proper attitude is saturated with HUMILITY (Rom 12:3, 16)

B. To be blessed we need to demonstrate the proper ACTIONS

1) We are called to never RETALIATE (Matt 5:45-47; Romans 12:15-17)

2) We are called to bless so that we may inherit a BLESSING

C. To be blessed we need to have the proper AUTHORITY

1) Peter shows that seeking a blessed life starts with the WORD

D. To be blessed we need to have the proper AWARENESS

1) We need to be aware that God does hear the prayers of His PEOPLE

(1 John 5:14-15; 2 Corinthians 12:6-10; Isaiah 59:2)

2) Be aware that those who practice evil and retaliation God is AGAINST

Going God desires for us to be blessed and to be blessing to each other and
