“Remembering the Certainty of our Salvation” 7/29/07

1 Peter 1:1-12

Date- Approximately 63 A.D. just before Nero’s persecutions and killings

Themes- Glory in the midst of suffering, our election & inheritance, how to live in a hostile world, Jesus as our example, we are the people of God joined to Israel, Don’t abandon hope or become bitter, Jesus is returning to culminate our Salvation

Colossians 3:2 “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

POINT 1- The PRESERVATION of our Salvation Vv. 1-5 (Past à Future)

A. Our Salvation is rooted in eternity past through being CHOSEN

(Ephesians 1:4, Romans 8:29-30, Romans 9:11-16)

B. We have been made born again through the work of GOD the FATHER

(James 1:18, John 3:1-8, 1 Peter 1:23)

C. Our inheritance (reward) is reserved in heaven and AWAITS US

(Romans 14:10, 2 Corinthians 5:10, 1 Corinthians 3:5-15)

D. Our salvation is preserved through God’s POWER

(John 10:28-29, John 5:24, 6:39)

Going God wants you to put your eyes and perspective back on Him! (Col 3:2)

POINT 2- The PROVING of our Salvation Vv. 6-9 (Present)

A. We need to realize that trials are temporary and sometimes NECESSARY

(James 1:12, Philippians 1:29, Acts 5:41, 14:22)

B. Even though we have trials, We love Jesus and hope in our SALVATION

(John 20:29, Luke 10:20)

Going God wants your faith to be genuine, are you learning this?

POINT 3- The PREDICTION of our Salvation Vv. 10-12 (Past)

A. Salvation through the Messiah is rooted in OT TEACHING

(Genesis 15:6, Psalm 14:1-3, Isaiah 59:2, 53:1-12, Psalm 2:12)

B. This salvation is so awesome that is interesting even to ANGELS

(Luke 15:7,10; 1 Corinthians 4:9)
