“The God of Blessing and Covenant”   5/13/07

Genesis 9:1-17

 

REVIEW- This is the STORY OF GOD, not necessarily mankind

What do we know about the Pre-flood world?

 

POINT 1- God begins the new world with an act of BLESSING

                                                                   

A.   God commands Noah and his family to multiply and fill the earth.

 

B.    God has now given to all mankind food to eat from the ANIMAL WORLD

 

C.   God introduces the means of human government and the DEATH PENALTY

(Romans 13:1-6; 1 Peter 2:13-17; 1 Timothy 2:1-2)

D.   God reiterates to Noah that they have a responsibility to MULTIPLY

 

 

Going         We need to understand that as believers in Jesus we are truly BLESSED

Deeper

 

We are blessed with God’s Presence (Heb 13:5), Peace (John 14:27; Phil 4:7), Love (Rom 5:5; 8:31-39; 1 John 3:1), Strength (Phil 4:13; Acts 1:8), Joy (John 15:11), Provision (Phil 4:19), Chosenness (Eph 1:4), Salvation (Psalm 32:1).

 

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.”   Ephesians 1:3

 

 

POINT 2- God establishes the new world with the promise of His COVENANT

 

A. God establishes His covenant with Noah and his descendants, including YOU

 

B. God establishes His covenant with the ANIMAL world as well.

 

C. God establishes a covenant that promises never to destroy again by  FLOOD

 

D. God establishes a covenant that has the sign of a RAINBOW

 

Going         When we see a rainbow we need to reaffirm that God keeps His PROMISES

“How blessed is the one You choose, And cause to approach You, That he may dwell in Your courts.”  Psalm 65:4
