“Cain or Abel: A Call to Faith-full Living”   2/25/07

Genesis 4:1-16

12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to

all men, because all sinned.    19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's

obedience many will be made righteous.”  Romans 5:12, 19

POINT 1- Living a life full of faith will be demonstrated by our OFFERINGS

A.   The writer conveys to us that both men could be considered RELIGIOUS

B.    God knows our hearts and theirs.  He knows when we are giving our BEST

C.   When our offerings are rejected God always gives us a chance to make RIGHT

Jesus said to him,  'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your

 mind.’”  Matthew 22:37

WHY DO YOU DO THE RELIGIOUS THINGS YOU DO?

“That the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this

generation, 51 "from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah”  Luke 11:50-51

“By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that

he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.”  Hebrews 11:4

DOES GOD TESTIFY OF YOUR GIFTS?

POINT 2- Living a life full of faith will be demonstrated by our REPENTANCE

A. Cain didn’t respond with faith and conquer sin, instead he SUCCUMBED

B. Cain demonstrated his depravity by killing the RIGHTEOUS and lying.

C. Cain regrets his consequences, but still rejects God and leaves His PRESENCE

“For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the

world produces death.”  2 Corinthians 7:10

“For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,

12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him?

Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous.”  1 John 3:11-12

“Woe to them (false believers)! For they have gone in the way of Cain,” Jude 11

THEIR WAY IS ONE OF SELF-WILL.  DO YOU SUBMIT TO GOD’S WORD?

SIN has CONSEQUENCES, but God still OFFERS FORGIVENESS!
