“Getting to Know Our Father-  His Providential Care” 12/03/06

IDOL WORSHIP- when we worship a false god.

Dualism- Two equal opposing forces vying for control in the universe.

Open Theology- would it bring you comfort to know that God learns, that God doesn't know the future exhaustively, or that He has to wait to find out what people will do?

Exodus 32:10-14  Did Moses enlighten God?  Or Gen 22; Gen 6, Saul

“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change his mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?” Num 23:19

“In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will” Eph 1:11

God is not a passive observer, but is actively accomplishing His will.

Isaiah 46:9-10;  55:8-11;  Habakkuk 2:2-3       Book of Judges / History of Israel

POINT 1- The providence of God is rooted in His SOVEREIGNTY

For everything in heaven and earth are yours.  Yours, O Lord is the Dominion, and are exalted as head over everything.”   1 Chronicles. 29:11

Many things have been chosen for us: our parents, our eye color, our ethnicity; our genetics; our time of death & birth; DID GOD ASK YOU?

“But our God is in the heavens, He does whatever He pleases.”  Ps. 115:3

POINT 2- The providence of God is unlimited in it’s SCOPE

A.                             Def.- “the continuous activity of God whereby He makes all the events of the physical, mental, and moral realms work out His purpose, and this purpose is nothing short of the ORIGINAL design of God in creation.”  CONFLUENCE

B.                             Exodus 12:36; Daniel 1:9; Proverbs 21:1; Ex 33:19; Gen 20:6;  Acts 4:27-28

"Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will.  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”   Matt 10:29-30

POINT 3- The providence of God always has a PURPOSE

A. The over-arching purpose in all of God’s actions is always for GOOD

B. Genesis 45:4-8; 50:15-21; The good is always subordinate to His Glory.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”  Romans 8:28
