Psalm 139:1-24 11/26/06
In a series
about our Father in Heaven; GOING DEEPER
"And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” John 17:3 (also see John 4:23)
Loneliness; most lonely groups are: college students. Next on the list
are divorced people, welfare
recipients, single mothers, rural students, housewives,
and the elderly.
We are made in
God’s image: RELATIONAL… we need relationships.
POINT 1- Our
relationship with God is deepened as we know His ATTRIBUTES
A. God desires for us to know that He is Omniscient
(ALL-KNOWING) Vv.1-6
V. 2a- He knows what we
do; V. 2b- He knows what we think; V. 3- He knows where we go;
V. 4- He knows what we say; V. 5- He protects us; V. 6- This knowledge
should cause us to revere our Father’s care.
“And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.” John 10:28-29
B. God desires for us to know that He is Omni-present
(EVERYWHERE) Vv.7-12
“Be content with such
things as you have. For He Himself has
said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” Hebrews 13:5
C. God desires for us to know that He is Omnipotent
(ALL-POWERFUL) Vv.13-16
“You
number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your
book?” Psalm 56:8
POINT 2- Our
relationship with God is deepened as we DRAW NEAR Vv. 17-24
A.
The number of caring thoughts
of our Father towards us are INFINITE
B.
As we grow closer to our
Father, we should be LIKE HIM
C.
A serious desire to know our
Father will embrace His attributes.
“Draw
near to God and He will draw near to you.”
James 4:8
Some
ways to go deeper (draw near) in your relationship with our Father:
1)
Consistent prayer
2)
Consistent reading of His love letter to you (His Word)
3)
Consistent obedience to His commands (pursuing Holiness as He is Holy)
4)
Consistent sharing of your faith in Him
5)
Consistent fellowship with His children (family)
6)
Consistent attitude of faith that God is going to fulfill your DREAM ministry.
Do
you embrace who God is? Or does it bother you because you are running?
