Difficult Doctrine …..REVIEW and GOSPEL  (Love turns to HATE).

REVIEW Our Approach: 1) God’s love for all  Through common grace, compassion, warning, and offer of salvation.   2) God’s love for the Elect; 3) God’s love for His Son and our response (Complacency); 4) God’s Love and His Glory

JOHN 15:9-10, “Remain in my love”

“Keep yourselves in the love of God”  Jude 21

Mark 12:28-34 “Love God and love your neighbor”

POINT 1- Our response should be characterized by LOVE FOR GOD

A.     If we truly have love for Jesus then we will be OBEDIENT     John 14:15

“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.”   1 John 5:3

B.     When we obey His commands, Jesus will make us His HOME   John 14:21-24

“But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him”  1 John 2:5

C.     If we have love for God we should also have love for His TRUTH

“Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.”  Psalm 119:97

Because of God’s great love for us, we should love Him in return with everything we possess: our Time (Eph 5:16), Talents (1 Peter 4:10), Treasures (Matthew 6:21)

POINT 2- Our response should be characterized by LOVE FOR OTHERS

A.     We should imitate God and have love for our ENEMIES

Eph 5:1-2; Matt 5:43-48; Luke 10:25-38 (Samaritan).

B.     Because of God’s love for us we should love our BROTHERS & SISTERS

1) This love is characterized by SACRIFICE    John 15:12-13; 1 John 3:16-18

2) This love is characterized by compassion, brotherly love, tenderhearted, humility, no evil for evil, blessings,  (1 Peter 3:8-12)

3) This love is characterized by forgiveness and hospitality (1 Peter 4:8-9)

“The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, And his glory is to overlook a transgression.”  Proverbs 19:11

            4) This love is characterized by SERVICE to one another.  (Galatians 5:13b)

“Live in harmony with each other. Don't be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don't think you know it all!”  Romans 12:16

“Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.”   Philippians 2:3

Finish with 1 Corinthians 13 with Jesus’ name in there.
