POINT 1- A careful walk is one done in LOVE Vv. 1-7
A. Our walk must seek to imitate the character of GOD
B. To walk in love to is to God and to love our NEIGHBOR
C. We are given the greatest example by seeing JESUS
“In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.” Hebrews 12:4
D. A genuine walk will not partake with unrepentant SINNERS Rom 2:5-9
“They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.” Titus 1:16
LUKE 13:3, 1 PETER 4:17 ARE YOU WALKING IN LOVE?
POINT 2- A careful walk is one done in LIGHT Vv. 8-14
A. Do we have a love for goodness, righteousness, and TRUTH
B. An honest attempt at discerning what is God’s WILL
God’s will is that we are Spirit-filled (5:18), sanctified (1 Thess 4:3), submissive
(1 Peter 2:13-15), suffering (1 Pet 2:20), and thankful (1 Thess 5:18). For gray areas see 1 Cor 6:12; 10:23-33; Romans 14:1-23.
C. No fellowship with darkness, but rather to EXPOSE its errors
ARE YOU WALKING IN LIGHT?
POINT 3- A careful walk is one done in WISDOM Vv. 15-21
A. Wisdom begins with the welcoming of constructive CRITICISM
“Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid.” Proverbs 12:1
B. A walk of wisdom means we are controlled by the SPIRIT
C. We should have an grateful attitude for ALL THINGS
D. Wisdom is demonstrated by humility and SUBMISSION
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:3-4
