Discipleship is MAKING DISCIPLES.  (MATT 28:18-20)

RABBINIC requirements to be a disciple (talmidim). Had to be the BEST.

POINT 1- Characteristics of a FALSE disciple.

A.      False disciples are characterized by being SUPERFICIAL  John 2:23-25

B.      Selective submission to His teachings and shallow COMMITMENT. Jn. 6:66

C.      Despite claims of signs and wonders, they lacked OBEDIENCE. Mt. 7:21-23

ILLUSTRATION-  “Will you please tell me in a word,” said a Christian woman to a minister, “what your idea of DEDICATION is?”

Holding out a blank sheet of paper the pastor replied, “It is to sign your name at the bottom of this blank sheet, and to let God fill it in as He will.”

POINT 2- Characteristics of a AUTHENTIC disciple.   Associated with His Mission

A.      Deny self, take up a cross daily, and FOLLOW Him.  Luke 9:23-25

B.      Put Jesus before self, family, and POSSESSIONS.   Luke 14:25-35

C.      Being committed and faithful to learning Jesus’ TEACHINGS.  John 8:31

D.     Participating in the active effort of EVANGELISM.   Matthew 9:35-38

E.      Follow Jesus’ example and show His kind of love to OTHERS. John 13:34-35

F.      We are to strive to bear as much FRUIT as we can.   John 15:7-17

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
