Seven Essentials of a Biblical Church Part 5- “Evangelism”    1/29/06.

What does a biblical church look like?  We can see from Scripture seven essentials necessary for a church
to find and fulfill its purpose in this world.  They are:

1)  A commitment to VISION (what we want to see);
2) A commitment to MISSION (how we get there);
3) A commitment to the WORD of God;
4) A commitment to biblical WORSHIP;
5) A commitment to EVANGELISM (world & personal);
6) A commitment to DISCIPLESHIP;
7) A commitment to UNITY.

“And Jesus said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Mark 16:15

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for
everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek (Gentile).”
  Romans 1:16

Gospel defined- 1 Corinthians 15:1-7

.

POINT 1- The HOW TO of sharing the Gospel  (Rom. 11:22 )

  1. The bad news: we are all SINNERS.  Rom.3:10, 23; Isaiah 64:6; 53:6
  1. The bad news: because God is Holy we are SEPARATED.  Rom. 6:23; Is. 59:2
  1. The good news: Jesus loves us & died as our SUBSTITUTE. Rom. 5:8; Is. 53:4-5
  1. The good news: if we believe in Jesus’ death, we gain SALVATION. Rom. 10:9

I can show my love for Jesus through PREPARATION to share the gospel (Jn. 14:15)

POINT 2- The HINDRANCES of sharing the Gospel  (1 Corinthians 1:18)

  1. The hindrances to effective evangelism begins with US.

1) Lack of consistent (godly) lifestyle  (Titus 1:16)

2) Indifference: no zeal or passion for lost  (Rev. 2:4; 3:16)

3) Fear of failure (2 Tim. 1:7) or persecution (John 15:18-20; 2 Tim. 3:12)

4) Not prepared spiritually (Ephesians 6:15; 1 Peter 3:15)

  1. The hindrances to effective evangelism includes the UNSAVED.

1) The unbeliever can’t understand (1 Cor. 2:14; John 6:44, 65; Rom. 3:11)

2) The unbeliever is antagonistic and God’s enemy (Rom. 5:10; Col. 1:21)

3) The unbeliever is blinded by Satan to God’s truth (2 Cor. 4:4)

I can overcome these by asking God to fill me with His HOLY SPIRIT.  (Acts 1:8)

POINT 3- The HOPE of sharing the Gospel  (Isaiah 55:11)

  1. The four responses of the Gospel being spread (Matthew 13:18-23)

1) Hard Soil (Indifferent; procrastinator; religious; self-righteous; rejector)

2) Rocky Soil (quick emotional response; no sense of lostness; pretender)

3) Weedy Soil (loves the world; no genuine pursuit of holiness; pretender)

4) Good Soil (produces real fruit unto eternal life; committed to the end)

“Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the
salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.”
2 Timothy 2:10|

I can be hopeful in knowing that God has chosen ME to partner with Him in evangelism.
