What does a biblical
church look like? We can see from Scripture seven essentials necessary
for a
church to find and fulfill its purpose in this world. They are:
1) A commitment to VISION (what we want to see);
2) A commitment to MISSION (how we get there);
3) A commitment to the WORD of God;
4) A commitment to biblical WORSHIP;
5) A commitment to EVANGELISM (world & personal);
6) A commitment to DISCIPLESHIP;
7) A commitment to UNITY.
Worshipful Attitude- “the love, adoration, or honor given to a superior being.”
POINT 1- True Worship ABSENT Vv. 20-22
A. The woman ignorantly focused on the ritual instead of the PERSON.
B. The woman’s false worship was SELECTIVE worship.
C. The woman’s false worship was SELF-CENTERED.
Consequences of False Worship illustrated in Leviticus 10:1-3.
I can respond to this truth by asking myself if my worship is GOD-CENTERED.
POINT 2- True Worship EXPLAINED Vv. 23-24
A. Jesus explained that the Father is seeking TRUE WORSHIPERS.
B. Jesus explained that true worship begins with the right RELATIONSHIP.
John 3:1-7
C. Jesus said true worship depends on a lifestyle that is CONSISTENT.
“You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.” Matt. 4:10
“Jesus
said, You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your
soul,
with all your mind, and all your strength.” Mark 12:30
I can respond to this truth by asking myself if my worship includes ALL OF ME.
POINT 3- True Worship OFFERED Vv. 25-26
A. God seeks us to worship Him through the MESSIAH JESUS.
Acts 4:12 and John 14:6 show that Jesus is the only way to truly worship.
I can respond to this truth by asking myself if I am here to GIVE OR RECEIVE.
“To
Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations,
forever and ever.
Amen.” Ephesians 3:21
