“Portrait of the Messiah (Part 2)-- Suffering Servant”

Isaiah 52:13-53:12     12-11-05

POINT 1- The Servant of the LORD will be  EXALTED.  Vv. 52:13-15

A.     The exaltation of the Servant is because He is SUCCESSFUL. V. 13

B.     The process of exaltation by the Servant is SHOCKING.  Vv. 14-15

"But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be
 humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”     
Matthew 23:11-12

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being
 saved it is the power of God.”
  1 Corinthians 1:18

POINT 2- The Servant of the LORD will be REJECTED.  Vv. 53:1-9

      A.  The rejected Servant was despised and deemed of no VALUE.  Vv.1-3

      B.   The rejected Servant still provided  ATONEMENT.  Vv. 4-6

      C.  The rejected Servant showed unwavering SUBMISSION.  Vv. 7-9

“If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine;
or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine.  If you
refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine.  If you cling to
your life, you will lose it; but if you give it up for me, you will find it.”
Matthew 10:37-40

“He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live to please
 themselves. Instead, they will live to please Christ, who died and was raised for them.” 
2 Corinthians 5:15

POINT 3- The Servant of the LORD will be  EXALTED.  Vv. 53:10-12

A.     The exalted Servant will be REWARDED.  V. 10

B.     The exalted Servant will see His FRUIT.  V. 11

C.     The exalted Servant will receive the SPOILS of His victory. V. 12

37All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no
means cast out  39This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me
 I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day…45 Therefore everyone who has
heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.” 
John 6:37, 39, 45.
